[ you ever just couldn't sleep because of a couple of failed social interactions that left you internally cringing since. that's lemuen right now, staring at the ceiling above her in this shared room with fiammetta.
she shouldn't disturb fia, she thinks. she needed the sleep. but out of curiosity she'll try anyway. ]

fia is doing all right after this party, though her mind is still processing the new information she's learned about this place and their neighbors. lemuen had been acting a little strangely since they returned to their room, and now that the two of them have had a little shower and slipped into bed, fia decides it can wait until the morning.
except it doesn't, because they're both awake. fiammetta turns her head to look at where she can spot lemuen's outline in her bed. ]

she doesn't know what she's feeling, actually. why did she keep eating desserts when she had such intense mood swings every time she ate something? why did she take free samples outside with her for everyone to have? who cares. you know what's more important? telling everyone about mostima, i guess. just try interrupting her. fiammetta barely shut up about her back home in the first place. ]
Thank the heavens a certain someone isn't out here with us. If Mostima were here, there's no doubt we'd lose her inside of that place for the next few weeks with how much free food there is in there. On second thought, I don't think she'd let anyone leave without making them try everything with her. She'd spike the samples with something spicy just for fun too, like she always does. We'd probably have to find somewhere to sleep. The furniture section was pretty big when I passed by it... That place is massive, actually, and everything in there is unfortunately delicious. Maybe staying in there wouldn't be so bad... as long as she isn't actually there too.

[ fiammetta is at the river's edge. i'm assuming her stuff came up with her? she's grasping her crossbody bag against her chest as she stares at the soil in front of her, beneath her knees. dirt sticks to her. her clothes are still soaking wet and cold. her red-gold tail is strung behind her like cloth, showing the path where she'd dragged herself from the water.
her whole body is shivering. she can't tell if it's the fear or the cold. her throat is in a vice grip, making every breath shallow. the pontifica cohors, the notarial hall, rhodes island—none of that had prepared fiammetta for being swallowed whole. thankfully she had died before the grenades detonated. if she didn't she would say bye to her whole career bc of trauma.
more than anything, she can't let go of the bag, as if her whole body had simply locked itself in this way for good. being swallowed isn't even the last thing she remembers—it's the dream that came after it, and the way waking up reminded her of how far gone that dream is in reality.
